Privacy Policy

Your runs never leave your phone.

Beyond Routes reads workouts you have already recorded in Apple Health and analyses them on your iPhone. There is no account, no server of ours, and no analytics. This page says exactly what the app reads, what it keeps, and the one thing it ever asks the outside world. Last updated September 9, 2026.

01 What we collect

Nothing

We operate no servers, no accounts, and no backend. We cannot see your workouts, your routes, your location, or your use of the app, because none of it is ever sent to us. There is nothing for us to hold, sell, or lose.

02 Apple Health

Read only, and only what the comparison needs

With your permission, the app reads outdoor workouts and their route samples from Apple Health, along with the measurements recorded beside them: heart rate, active energy, cardio fitness and running dynamics. It reads. It never writes to Health, and it never deletes anything there.

Apple Health remains the source of truth for your health data. You can review or revoke the app's access at any time in the Health app, under Sharing. Declining is supported: the app still opens and explains what it cannot show.

03 What the app stores

On your device, under file protection

The app keeps its own analysis on your iPhone: which workouts it believes happened on the same route, the comparisons it derives from them, the names you give routes, and any corrections you make. That database is stored with complete file protection and is excluded from iCloud backup, so your derived route history stays on the one device that made it.

None of it goes to iCloud, CloudKit, a third party, or a log we can read. Deleting the app removes it.

04 The one exception

Two points of a route are sent to Apple to be named

So that a route can be called Regent's Canal loop rather than a set of coordinates, the app asks Apple's geocoding service to name two points: where the route starts, and the point furthest from there. Where the address has no usable name, it makes one points-of-interest search for the same place.

That is the whole of it. The route itself is never sent, nor any workout, identifier, time, or measurement. Answers are cached on your device, so a place is asked about once. If the lookup is unavailable the route simply keeps a name derived from its own shape, and the app works the same.

05 Tracking and advertising

None of either

The app contains no analytics SDK, no advertising framework, no tracking identifier, and no crash reporter of ours. It does not track you across apps or websites, and it has no share sheet, friends, profile, or leaderboard. Comparison in Beyond Routes is always against your own history and nobody else's.

06 Subscriptions

Handled by Apple, start to finish

Beyond Routes Premium is an auto-renewing subscription sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment and tells the app only whether a subscription is active. We never see your name, your payment details, or your Apple Account. Manage or cancel it in Settings on your iPhone, under your Apple Account, at any time.

07 Deleting your data

You are always one step from empty

Settings › Rebuild analysis erases everything the app has derived, including route names and corrections, and rebuilds from Health. Deleting the app removes its database from your device. Your workouts themselves belong to Apple Health and are untouched either way, and removing the app never removes a workout.

08 Children

Not directed at children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and collects no data from anyone, of any age.

09 Changes

If this policy changes, this page changes

If the app's data practices ever change, we will update this page and its date before the change ships.
