Effect reference

TUBE

Tube rounds sharp peaks and adds harmonics that can make a thin voice, piano or guitar feel fuller. Use it for a little warmth, or push it until the recording has an audible edge.

Controls

DRIVE

PRO
Range
0dB to +24dB
Default
+7dB

Adds more saturation as you turn it up, rounding attacks and making the sound denser. Back it off if consonants, piano strikes or picked notes lose their shape.

TONE

PRO
Range
-4.0dB to +4.0dB
Default
0.0dB

Negative settings add body and soften the top; positive settings lighten the bottom and brighten the top. Use it to keep the warmth from turning muddy, or to ease a sharp edge.

MIX

PRO
Range
0% to 100%
Default
100%

Blends the tube sound with the original recording. Lower it when you want warmth but need to keep the original attack and clarity.

BIAS

PROADVANCED
Range
0% to 100%
Default
40%

Changes the kind of harmonics Tube adds, with higher settings bringing more of a soft octave above the notes. It is a change of character rather than another drive control, so compare it on a held note.

OUTPUT

PROADVANCED
Range
-12dB to +12dB
Default
0.0dB

Turns the processed sound up or down before it blends with the original. Use it to balance the effect against the bypassed recording so extra loudness does not decide for you.

Start here

For a thin vocal, try DRIVE at +7dB, TONE at -1.0dB, MIX at 70%, BIAS at 40% and OUTPUT at 0.0dB. Listen for a fuller voice with clear words; if it becomes woolly, bring TONE toward 0.0dB or reduce MIX.

Questions

Can I use Tube on piano or acoustic guitar?

Yes, a little saturation can soften a hard piano attack or add body to picked guitar. Reduce DRIVE or MIX if the notes stop feeling separate.

Should I put Tube on a whole song?

Try a small amount if the recording feels thin or sharp. Listen to the loudest section and keep MIX low enough that the voice and instruments stay distinct.
