EQ
The EQ shapes the tone of a recording: more body, less mud, more air. Use it to fix what the phone's microphone and the room did to the sound, before anything else in the chain.
Controls
LOW
- Range
- -12dB to +12dB
- Default
- 0.0dB
Turns the bottom end up for warmth and weight, or down when a recording sounds boomy. It lifts or lowers everything below LOW FREQ in a gentle slope.
MID
- Range
- -12dB to +12dB
- Default
- 0.0dB
Boosts or cuts a band in the middle, where a voice or guitar sits. Cut it to clear a boxy or muddy sound, boost it to bring a part forward.
HIGH
- Range
- -12dB to +12dB
- Default
- 0.0dB
Turns up the air and detail above HIGH FREQ, or softens a bright, edgy recording. A small boost often makes a phone recording sound more open.
LOW FREQ
- Range
- 40Hz to 400Hz
- Default
- 82Hz
- Without Pro
- 82Hz
Sets where the LOW band starts working. Lower it to touch only the deep bass, raise it to warm up the lower mids too.
MID FREQ
- Range
- 150Hz to 8.0k
- Default
- 976Hz
- Without Pro
- 320Hz
Picks the frequency MID boosts or cuts. Around 300Hz is where boxiness lives, around 3k is presence and bite.
MID WIDTH
- Range
- 0.3oct to 3.0oct
- Default
- 1.4oct
- Without Pro
- 1.2oct
Sets how wide the MID band is, in octaves. Narrow it to remove one ringing tone, widen it for a broad, musical change.
HIGH FREQ
- Range
- 2.0k to 16k
- Default
- 8.0k
- Without Pro
- 10k
Sets where the HIGH band starts working. Lower it to brighten the whole top, raise it to add only the airy shimmer.
LOW CUT
- Range
- 20Hz to 400Hz
- Default
- 20Hz
- Without Pro
- 80Hz
Removes rumble, handling noise and wind below this frequency. All the way down at 20Hz it is off.

The free sound already sets a good EQ for a voice and an instrument: LOW CUT at 80Hz, MID at -1.5dB around 320Hz to take out boxiness, and HIGH at +2.0dB from 10k for air. If the recording sounds thin, add LOW in small steps up to about +3.0dB. If it sounds harsh, bring HIGH back toward 0.0dB before you reach for anything else.
Questions
How do I make a phone recording sound less muddy?
Cut MID by 2 to 4 dB with MID FREQ between 250Hz and 400Hz. Sweep MID FREQ while you listen and stop where the sound opens up.
What does LOW CUT do?
It removes the deep rumble you rarely hear but always feel: traffic, handling noise, a desk being bumped. For voice and guitar, 80Hz to 100Hz is a safe place to start.
Should I boost or cut?
Cut first. Taking away what sounds wrong keeps the recording natural, and the parts you want come forward on their own.
