Bring recordings in
Bring existing song ideas into the same library as your new recordings. You can choose audio files from Files or send recordings from Voice Memos and other apps, then play, trim and shape their sound in Music Dawn.
Import from Files
In the library, tap Import Audio and choose one or more audio files. On iPad, Import Audio is in the sidebar.
Files imported while an ordinary folder is selected go into that folder. Otherwise, they go into Imported. Importing is free and copies the files into Music Dawn without changing the source files.
Move ideas from Voice Memos
In Voice Memos, use the recording's sharing options and choose Music Dawn from the system share sheet. Check the number of recordings in Music Dawn's confirmation and tap ADD, or CANCEL to leave them out.
Open Music Dawn after sharing. The recordings are added when the app next opens or returns to the foreground, and go into Imported. The same route works from Files and other apps that share audio attachments; you can send several together when the source app supports it.
This copies the shared audio. It does not remove the recordings from Voice Memos.
Listen to an imported recording
Open the imported recording in the library. Its title comes from the file name, and it starts with your default playback preset, just like a new recording. Its audio is copied without conversion, so effects remain separate from the source.
Music Dawn reads a recording date from the file when it can, then falls back to the file's date or the import date. A shared file may carry a new date rather than the date shown in Voice Memos.
Questions
Can I bring several recordings into Music Dawn at once?
Yes. Import Audio lets you select multiple audio files. The share extension also accepts multiple audio attachments when the sending app provides them.
Will importing change or delete my Voice Memos?
No. Music Dawn copies the audio supplied by the share sheet into its own library. The source recordings stay in Voice Memos.
Where are the recordings I just shared?
Open Music Dawn and look in Imported. Shared recordings enter the library when Music Dawn opens or returns to the foreground, rather than while the confirmation is on screen.
Why does an imported recording have a different date?
Music Dawn uses the date available in the audio file, which may have changed when the source app shared it. If no recording date is available, it uses the file's date or the import date.
