CLEAN
Clean reduces steady background noise and the room sound that lingers after a voice or instrument. It learns the noise from the recording itself, so you do not need to select a quiet passage.
Controls
NOISE
- Range
- 0dB to -30dB
- Default
- -12dB
Reduces hiss, fan noise and other steady background sound as the readout becomes more negative. Too much can dull quiet detail or make the sound watery, so back it off if breaths and soft notes lose their shape.
ROOM
- Range
- 0dB to -12dB
- Default
- 0dB
Reduces the fading room reflections after words and notes, making a distant recording sound closer. Too much can shorten natural note tails and make the sound dry or uneven as it fades.
Start here
For a vocal recorded near a fan, set NOISE to -12dB and leave ROOM at 0dB. Listen to both a pause and a quiet phrase, then ease NOISE toward 0dB if the voice loses detail. If the room still rings after each phrase, try ROOM at -3dB and listen to the ends of words.
Questions
Can Clean remove every unwanted sound?
Clean targets steady background noise and fading room reflections. A cough, a door slam or another person talking is not the same kind of noise, so do not expect it to disappear.
Can I use Clean while recording?
Clean needs a recorded recording to measure its noise. It does not clean the live microphone sound you hear while recording.
Why does my piano sound cut short?
ROOM can reduce a note's fading sound as well as the room around it. Move ROOM toward 0dB first, then ease NOISE back if the quiet notes still lose detail.
