Keep your musical ideas private

Music Dawn stores your recordings on your device first, with private iCloud sync to carry your library between devices. Recording, playback, effects, tuning and musical analysis run on your device. Location tags are optional.

Record and listen locally

Allow microphone access to record or use the Tuner. Playback and effects work with local audio files; musical analysis also runs locally rather than sending a recording to an analysis service. Chord, key and tempo analysis requires Pro.

You do not need a Music Dawn account. The app has no advertising or third-party analytics, and your recordings do not pass through a server operated by Beyond Beyond.

Carry your library through private iCloud sync

When iCloud is available, Music Dawn syncs library details and recording audio through your Apple Account's private iCloud database. Each device keeps local files for playback, including audio received through sync.

You can record and work with recordings already on your device offline. A recording from another device needs to finish syncing before its audio is available locally. Sync uses your own iCloud account, rather than a public library or a Music Dawn account.

Choose whether to tag a place

In Settings, use Tag Location to choose whether new recordings get a place tag. If enabled, Music Dawn requests location permission while you use the app and asks for your current location when capture starts.

The location is attached to the recording, with a place name when one is available. It travels with that recording through private iCloud sync. Declining permission still lets you record; the recording has no location tag.

Turning Tag Location off stops tagging new recordings. It does not remove tags already saved with earlier recordings.

Review permissions

Open Settings in Music Dawn and check Microphone and Location under Permissions. If access has been denied, use the system Settings app to change it; Music Dawn cannot show the permission request again.

Read the Privacy Policy for the full account of storage, sync and data handling.

Questions

Are my recordings sent away for musical analysis?

No. Music Dawn performs chord, key and tempo analysis on your device; private iCloud sync separately transfers recordings between your devices.

Can I record without an internet connection?

Yes. Recording, tuning, playback and effects run locally; syncing recordings between devices needs connectivity.

Can Beyond Beyond listen to my iCloud recordings?

No. Your library syncs through your own private iCloud database, and Beyond Beyond cannot read or recover it.

Do I have to share my location to record?

No. Location tagging is optional, and recording still works if you turn Tag Location off or decline location permission.

Does turning off Tag Location erase old place tags?

No. It stops adding location to new recordings; existing tags stay attached to the recordings that already have them.
